ABOUT ELDFAST
Traditional lining within chimneys has historically taken the form of lime or cement mortars being
parged inside the the masonry flue whist being constructed.
Earlier this even took the form of lime / clay mortar or mixes using horse hair or straw
reinforcement, often known as 'clunch' in order to form a seal within a flue or chimney.
As is now known, these materials were prone to acid attack and suffered subsequent
breakdown. Eldfast Ceramic is a modern day material designed to replace the failed parging with a wholly
ceramic material with no lime, sand or cement in its composition.
The material will coat masonry and seal brick joints affording a very resilient fire proof coating.
In addition to its ability to re parge old brick flues it is a useful material for sealing cracked or broken clay pot liners with obvious savings on replacement. Further gas flue block systems can be sealed with the material.
The material can withstand exposure to extreme temperatures (1,000 degrees C ).
The material can be applied to flues without effectively altering the nominal dimensions.
Suitable for any fuel including gas and oil.
Traditional lining materials require that the chimney breast be opened at intervals for correct
installation - with Eldfast, providing there is adequate access at the base, no opening of the flue
is usually required. Great savings on time and no damage to the decor.
The material effectively ' reinforces' the flue.
Should a clay pot lined chimney be damaged or incorrectly installed it is not necessary to
remove the liners, the Eldfast can seal cracks, misaligned or leaking joints forming a continuous
flue, a considerable cost saving on replacement liners.
In general all flue sizes up to 15" X 15" can be re lined.
INITIAL USE
Once the lining has cured for two days the fire or appliance can be used at a low temperature output for the following 24 hrs. Care is needed to avoid the lining material being exposed to rapid heating which may cause the material to lift from its backing if it has not fully set. The Eldfast lining will become extremely hard and resilient over subsequent firing and exposure to normal flue gas temperatures.
FUEL BURNING Always follow the manufactures' operating instructions. Never burn unseasoned or wet fuel. Have your chimney swept regularly by a professional chimney sweep - at least once a year.

Cleaning the flue (Above).
Loose material is removed using steel brushes, heavydeposits are tackled with reaming tools or flails.
The Plug (Above) Can be either a series of foam pads covered with a kevlar jacket or a small (3ft) balloon attached to a self regulating compressor (used for flues that change in diameter or have limited access). Both methods apply the material to the flue face under pressure.
